Bowel Cancer NZ ABOUT US Every day, around 8 New Zealanders are diagnosed with bowel cancer and 3 of us die from it. It’s time to get serious
about beating this silent killer.

Bowel cancer is the second highest cause of cancer death in New Zealand.

It kills as many New Zealanders as breast and prostate cancer combined, and it can affect anyone at any age. But it is treatable – and beatable – if it’s detected early enough.

“Bowel Cancer NZ understands the importance of supporting patients at a time when they need it most through their online support group, which I am part of. I commend them on their work, in all that they do for bowel cancer patients.” –  Melissa Vining, Cancer Care Advocate.

We’re helping the 1 in 6 New Zealanders affected by bowel cancer. Here’s how we’re tracking:

New Zealand’s first bowel cancer screening programme piloted. We’ve been the strongest voice calling for a nationwide programme – now being rolled out.

Increase in referrals for colonoscopies, resulting in more bowel cancer being found early – when it’s more treatable.

Increase in home screening test kits, due to our advocacy work.

Donated towards vital bowel cancer research in New Zealand: research that could help save hundreds of lives.

Patients supported via our online patient support group in the past five years.

New Zealanders reached through our awareness and prevention campaigns – helping to ensure Kiwis don’t sit on their symptoms.
