Health Minister Dr David Clark has opened Hawke‘s Bay DHB new state-of-the-art gastroenterology and endoscopy unit. The $13.1 million Ruakopito building will bring gastroenterology services under one roof and help manage the expected increase in colonoscopy screening arising from bowel screening being launched in the region on 9 October.
With Hawke’s Bay joining the National Bowel Screening Programme, 7 out of 20 DHBs in New Zealand are now offering free bowel screening to eligible 60 to 74 year olds in their populations. The remaining DHBs are expected to be on board by June 2021.
