Joseph Clements was only 35 when he recently passed away.
Mr Clement’s mother, Charlotte, said her son’s story showed bowel cancer, often perceived as an older person’s disease, could strike at any age. ”Looking back he felt that maybe he had had symptoms a lot longer than he thought he had.”
With his lengthy dreadlocks, Mr Clements was a distinctive presence in the artistic and musical communities of Dunedin. His dreadlocks have now since been cut off and Namakau Nalumango has been given Joseph’s hair to work with to produce a special wig for other cancer sufferers.
Charlotte has since created a Everydayhero page for Joseph, aptly called Epic Dreads http://bit.ly/2JgWIbg
