Trudy’s Story

“A healthy, busy person and always on the go, a wife, a mum to 4 grown up kids, & 6 grandkids Life was great, loved going out with friends & family

Then one day I got excruciating pains on my lower left side..It was a weekend, so I went to the Dr on the Monday He initially thought it was diviticulitis & was treating me for that

Then after a few days he sent me for a scan. The radiographer said, Did you know you have gallstones ?? No I didn’t !! And they still haven’t troubled me 3.5 yrs later !!

But by the following Monday I went back to the Dr I could barely walk with the pain.He phoned the hospital & I went in. Later that night they did a full scan ( MRI ) & the diagnosis wasn’t nice I had a tumour & bowel cancer. I wondered why I was on a drip for 7 days before they did anything ( too stunned to ask questions ) but the tumour was ruptured & they wanted to get rid of infection I had a colonoscopy with disastrous results

Then in for the operation I have to say the next 2 weeks were spent in a dazed state but I was so grateful to my fabulous surgeon , & amazing nurses & DrsI was so lucky.

The surgeon said she felt she had “ got it all “ & there would be no need for chemo & radiation. Yes, my life changed. I haven’t done any overseas travel & am slower, but there’s always golden moments. We bought a Campervan & enjoy that & every day I am grateful
lost almost 3/4 of my bowel”
